E-Biking in Bagan is the ultimate way to explore Bagan. You not only have the freedom and the mobility to explore but also it is also a good way to get lost among the hundreds of temples on the road less traveled. Read these tips for the best tip of your life zipping by the temples.
Beware of The Battery
You can rent a standard e-bike in Bagan for full day (meaning 10 hours) for 8000 Kyat (6.15US$) and has a charge that will last 8 – 10 hours. This is generally enough for your full day of exploration. However, the charge will deplete faster on how fast you ride and how much load you have on board.
No Minimum Age or License Needed
Since its technically a bicycle and not a motor bike, you don’t have to be 18 and have a license to drive one or to drive alone.
Glove Compartment Under The Seat
Unknown to most people, there is a glove compartment under the seat, which usually have the helmet hidden in. Use this compartment instead of the basket in front to store your belongings when you are out exploring the temples. It is also big enough for a small bag so make use it of it.
You’ve Got a Honk, So Use It!
It is like the wild west out here! Locals do not have a general sense of the traffic rules and they don’t obey it most of the time. This applies for both the pedestrians and motorists. It might sound rude to you in the first place but it’s for your own good and safety of others so honk away whenever needed.
The rule is, there is no rule. There is no designated parking for the e-bikes. So be a responsinle and park somewhere that is not in the way of others nor does not interfere or disturb others, especially the tour buses and house carts.
Theft in general is relatively low in Myanmar and especially in religious places like Bagan. However, as a general rule of thumb, never leave a bike unlocked, not even a minute.
Beware Of The Sand
Not all roads that you will travel will be paved. Heck, most roads you are going to explore will be on loose sand. Be careful not to zip right through the sand, otherwise you will either find yourself tipping over and ending with a big cut or pushing the heavy bike through the sand.
